It is recommended setting up your authenticator app using a computer along with your mobile device.

  1. Start by going to www.outlook.com and sign in using your email and password. 
  2. When logging in you will be prompted that there is more information required click nextA screenshot of a computer

  4. The next screen is the Microsoft Authenticator setup your account screen click next A screenshot of a computer screen

  5. The next screen presents a QR Code. At this time download the Microsoft Authenticator App from your phones app store. Just search for “Microsoft Authenticator” and it will come up. **Note for Apple users** The first app to appear in the results is not the Microsoft one see Right Photo       A screenshot of a qr code

  6. After downloading the app open it up and click scan QR codeA picture containing text, screenshot, computer, operating system

  7. Scan the QR code on the screen using your phone and it will link your email account to the authenticator. This will display on your phone screen showing the account is successfully added. A picture containing electronics, text, computer, electronic device

  8. Next the on the computer screen it will test the apps authentication features as well as set up your secondary method. First it will display a number that will send a push notification to your phone. A screenshot of a computer

  9. Click the notification sent from Microsoft Authenticator and enter the number displayed on the screen. After entering the number click yes. (Note: If you see this notification and you are not actively logging in click no it's not me)A picture containing text, screenshot, software, operating system

  10. After clicking yes, the authenticator app will show a successful authentication. Click NextA screenshot of a computer

  11. Now this is where the app will ask to create a secondary method. This will be for phone text verification. Enter your phone number and click next. This will prompt a text message to be sent to the number entered with a code to enter on the next screen. A screenshot of a computer

  12. Enter the code that was received in the text message and hit next.A screenshot of a computer

  13. The app will show the text authentication is successful, click next to continue. A screenshot of a computer

  14. Finally the app will move to the final screen showing you have successfully set up your Multi Factor Authentication. Just click done and you are good to go.A screenshot of a computer
